can get sound to play xfce4.6/suse 11.1

hi-

under kde 3.5 and suse 11.1 sound worked out of the box.
xfce...not so much. it wont play any test sounds in yast
hardware. no streaming video on msnbc. i tried to buy a audio advantage turtle beach micro usb. no luck. i bought it because someone said it works with linux. everything else works really good. i am running out of things to try. i shouldnt have deviated from my plan which was to buy a brand listed in the drivers section in yast (and also the model). turtle beach brand is there but not my model.

if you have any tips, it would be really cool. my audio for this windows box is a ac97 i think by realtek. no sound really is a show stopper as i need to hear the streaming audio as most clips on the news are with sound.

i will check tomorrow for a response. i am headed to bed for work tomorrow.
thanks for any help.

I hooked up gnome and the card was immediately detected on install. I didn't have to configure anything. I am not fooling with xfce anymore. My partition table is crazy now and i don't know how that happened. I just accept proposals. Now i will have to delete partitions and re-create. Glad my windows partition is ok.

Hope you have some luck fixing your sound.

Go into Yast > Sound,
Delete what ever sound card you have configured.
Choose Edit option on the un-configured sound card.
Quick Auto Setup
Exit

That should reconfigure the sound, Also what version of a web browser are you using. I'm guessing FF. Try to see if you get sound outside of a web browser. Let me know the results
