Can't log in as root after KDE update

Hi,
I've just updatedKDE fro m3.3 to 3.4 in Suse 9.2.

Now I can't log in graphically to KDE as root.It seems I have to log in as a user.
Also, none of the changes I make in the control panel/Login manager seem to work.

I've tried editing the /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc file to allow root to log in, but that still doesn't work.

Has anyone else had this problem and,more importantly, know how to resolve it?

I had a similar problem once. I solved it by going to a terminal from the login screen (Ctrl-Alt-F1), logging in as root there, then running startkde. I was able to get KDM to save changes that way.
