Can't see other files when using ssh

I have installed and ran ssh to see the files and be able to access them on another Linux Computer on my wireless network. I am try using SLED 10 sp1 on my laptop and trying to access my tower which is running Ubuntu 8.04. When I run the ssh command it shows that I am connected to the other computer but I can't see any files. Command I am running is "ssh -l nitewalker 192.168.0.101.
Should clarify that I can see the file if I run ls -l on results, but what I am trying to do is to be able to open another desktop on my laptop that shows the Ubuntu files so I can work on them?

Basically ssh is a console application. You have to type in commands at the prompt for anything to "happen".

You can also configure x11 forwarding so you can get windows of a remotely started application on your desktop. Another option would be to use vncserver which is a remote desktop application.

If you only want to access your files, you can set up a samba or nfs share, which is imo the best solution.

However, if you want to administrate your other box and are scared of the command line, VNC is the best option for you
