Can't change display manager in yast2

I want to use kdm, but when I change it in /etc/sysconfig via yast2, it shows the change, but nothing happens when I reboot the machine. What do I do?

Have you added the KDM package? I assume you must be using GDM.

No, I'm not using GDM or KDM. I'm using XDM.

KDM is installed, and I can start KDM, but it doesn't allow authentication. I noticed there are 2 xdm services running. If I kill one, KDM may work, but if I kill both it doesn't. Either way, changing the display manager directly through yast doesn't seem to have any effect.
