Booting SuSE from usb hd

Hi; I installed SuSe to my external mini 2.5" hard drive, but as you may suspect I can not get the thing to boot. My bios alows to boot to usb hd, and grub is installed on the first part of the usb drive. The pc boots to the usb drive and loads grub but, grub wants to read it's boot message and configuration from a diff. hard drive and partition.

I had this happen on my machine when getting 2 SATA drives and 2 IDE drives jiving on my machine with SuSE on the first SATA, solved it by disconecting the ides when installing grub then reconnecting them, but this seem a bit extream is there another way? Or is there another bootloader, boot flopy or boot cd that will do this for me? Thanks in advance.
