bittorrent freezes network

I have a dsl router(LAN connection). When i use bittorrent my network's speed gradually reaches zero.At the beggining bittorrent has a normal dl speed(about 30) and then gradually goes to 20 - 10 -0(this happens in about 15-20 minuits). After that no internet connection works.I have to restart my system in order to make my network work.Using suse linux 10.0.Any ideas?

I've seen this problem with BitTorrent and routers/modems. It's not necessarily an operating system problem (at least in my case). You need to update your router firmware (or in my case, downgrade).

That's my guess! Let us know if this works or not.

well i have the latest firmware. It might be something with my operating system cause bittorrent works fine under winxp.

Try going into your windows and in your BT settings there see what the number of connections it is limiting it too then use the same settings for the limit in linux you may also want to limit the upload rate to about 80% of the max upload that your connection can do.
