BitchX and Irssi will not automatically scroll text

I've never had this issue with any other distro I've used. If I use BitchX or Irssi with Eterm, gnome-terminal, or wterm the text does not advance correctly. After I've received enough text or typed enough to fill the screen only the bottom line scrolls or advances automatically. If I'm just typing commands at the console without having BitchX or Irssi loaded everything is fine, also, if I run BitchX or Irssi in Xterm I have no problem. Any ideas?

It's gnome-terminal

Just set your TERM=gnome and it should work fine. This also effects grub and silc.

export TERM=gnome
BitchX

Hope that helps.

Please don't be offended, but I want to describe each step to make sure we don't miss understand each other. I know you already know how to do all this below, but it might be clearer this way.

If you are running bash as your shell (which is likely to be true if you are under Linux)
then your prompt might look like this
[you@yourhost ~]$

at that prompt you would type the following:

export TERM=gnome

press Enter

then at the new prompt

[you@yourhost ~]$

type:

BitchX

press Enter again

when BitchX it comes up things should work better. If it doesn't work, post here again and we'll just think harder.
