available space reiserfs: 0,00 kb

i had 753mb of available disc space when i opened some pictures in gimp. a couple of seconds later there was no space left (even though 80mb ram were said to be available) and the notebook slowed down. i closed gimp with ctrl+alt+esc and still there was no space available. closing amarok liberated 8,00kb, but that was just temporary... now i have closed all other windows and wonder if i could log in as root and delete all the content of my /tmp-folder!? or do i find the space taking stuff in /home/ungua/...!? and will i even be able to log in as root??? else i would have to use knoppix or some other live system to delete temporary files i guess...

best regards & i appreciate every help, as immediate as possible!
ungua

edit: i found the "gimpswap" (823mb, after deleting it i have 700mb left..!?!?). may i still just delete the content of /tmp?

The .thumbnails folder is a cache for the thumbnails you see when you browse a folder with images. You can delete them and they'll be recreated when needed.
