Automounting problem
Hey guys, I just installed suse 10 on my main machine, and have noticed some issues regarding the automounting system. I am decent with linux now, and decided to laze away from my slackware and try suse for that warm GUI feel. I just installed it on an older machine (dell gx400) with great results.
My machine is having issues with the automounting of external storage devices. Normally, when I plug in a memory key or ipod, suse will let me know, pop it up, add it to the "My Computer" section etc. Now, however, nothing happens. (Actually, it never worked) So I tried to mount my devices from the command line, and it worked just fine. This is a stock install of suse 10 pro. Any ideas of what to look for in terms of errors? The only things out of place I could find were: - During shutdown, it says it can't find the sysfs mount point a dozen or so times (doesn't stop anything, just produces the error a bunch) - When I put in a cdrom and clicked on the icon in My Computer, it says only root can mount... as root, it works just fine Thanx for any help in advance! -Bill |
try to use the automounter while having a look at /var/log/warn.

Hopefully you're running SuSEwatcher which notifies you of updates. Auto-mounting was redone in 10.0 and it had some quirks at first that updates seem to have fixed.

ah yes, damned if a YOU didin't fix it. Good call.
Now why amarok sets pcm to zero everytime it begins playback is another mystery. And a different thread. Thanx for the help! |
