ATI drivers for Suse 9.2

I went into ATI to find drivers, there were list for different XFree86 verisons as 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and X.Org 6.8. I dunno which I need to download for 9.2. Also tried run check.sh to check what kind of verison I use. I dunno how to run that or use either. Im totally noob. I just need to know how to use check.sh and install which verison of ATI drivers. thanks.

suse 9.2 standard install uses x.org

change your install source to an ftp mirror and search for the ati driver. it should already be there.

How come in device manager or something like that say my video card is ATI R350 NH? My video card is ATI Radeon 9800PRO. I installed the drivers w/ yast, seem to installed successfully, but is R350 NH normal name? Also how come I still dont have 3D graphics? it said it not 3D, what do I need do?

I don't know that driver so I couldn't tell you why the name is like that.

go into YAST and find the video card setting section. under one of the subsections (resolution i think) is a check box to enable the 3-D if available. You may have to drill down a couple of levels to get to it. If you don't find it reply and I will look when I get home.

Becareful with enabling the 3-D. i did so on my laptop with a ATI card and it really did some flaky stuff. It really got on my nerves so I truned if off and all returned to normal.

This post contains more information on the ATI drivers:

In a nutshell, get the packages from suse and follow the instructions in the readme

I was not that lucky, since I have a radeon 9550 card. Suse detects it as ATI RV350 AS and RV350 ??, which is correct by the way

I was not able to get into the suse ftp site at all.

I could not even get the check.sh command to run! Supossed to detect which version of XF86Free you are running!

So I think that as soon as I have the cash I will purchase an nvidia 5700 LE AGP card and get away from ATI.

Thats what happens when you do not go and check the Linux HCL list first before you buy!:o
