Application Menu + Gnome
Hey all,
I tried searching for this, but surprisingly came up empty. I was just wondering how to add launchers to the Applications menu. I've read that I should be able to just right click anywhere and something should pop up where I can add to menu. Unfortunately, when I right click nothing happens. I'm using SuSE 9.3 and Gnome. I'm a very new Linux user, so bare with me :) Thanks in advance, Matt |
GNOME 2.10 disabled the editing of the menus, so you have to create an entry manually. Take a look at the *.desktop files in /usr/share/applications and use those as a guide to create your own.

Thanks... that sucks haha Good luck to me :)

Hi,
I want to add/remove some entries from my gnome menu. I went in /usr/share/applications and find some of the icons there, but not all.Can somebody please assist in where to find the other menu entries. Thanks !!:( |
Hey all,
Well, with some hunting I managed to find this: http://support.novell.com/techcenter...s/tp10003.html It's straight from novell, so I figured it would work... but it doesn't. At one point it mentions: " /etc/opt/gnome/gnome-vfs-2.0/vfolder/applications-all-users.vfolder-info" but this file doesn't exist. Am I missing something? Right now I have: [Desktop Entry] Name=JBuilder Exec= (where it is) Icon=(the icon location I chose) Terminal=false Type=Application Categories=Application;Programming;JBuilder It adds the launcher to the menu, but in a Applications submenu (no programming menu or anything). Even if I change Categories to Games, it stays in the Applications submenu. I've also tried creating a Programming.directory in /opt/gnome/share/desktop-directories but that didn't help at all. Is there an easier way? Please please tell me there is! I'd hate to go back to XP because of something so simple :( Thanks, Matt |
Try changing the category (in the last line) from "Programming" to "Development".

Alright, I'll give that a shot when I get home.
Is there no way to make my own category? |
