Amd 64 3200 Cpu + Suse 9.2

Hi,

I'm looking to build a kerio email server running on Suse 9.2. My question is, is Suse 9.2 compatible with the AMD 64 3200 939 socket? I'm not looking to run any 64 bit processes, just plain old 32 bit. Would this cpu be a waste or would Suse 9.2 32 bit run just fine on it?

This has not much to do with SuSE. Any 32-bit app will run on AMD64.
I don't know if there are any advantages, disadvantages of running 32-bit mail server over 64-bit.
In spite of general belief, to take advantage of 64-bit code one does not need 4GB of RAM.
For example math calculations and encryption will run faster on 64-bit OS (without 4GB RAM)
than 32-bit. This is something that MS and Apple wants users to believe (that there is no advantage).

I your case simply check benchmarks (if there are any). Definitely you will not lose anything running 32-bit SuSE on AMD64. It will be faster than on similarly configured 32-bit AMD because of architectureal CPU differences anyway.

Great! I was hoping that a 32-bit os would run fine with the AMD 64. I found a great combo deal on line: MSI K8TNEO2-F Via Socket 939 MotherBoard with AMD Athlon 64 3000 and 1024MB (2x512MB) DDR Memory for only $350.00.

Suse should run fine with this hardware. I don't really care for the graphics and desktop, since I will only be using this machine for a mission critical email server.

Thanks,
