advise me

Hi everybody
Now I had finished those courses
1-Introduction to Linux
2-Shell scripting
3-Perl
4-Tcl
and i am working now in "system calls" really I like Linux :)
now i know my way in my Linux
most of the time i used Solaris but I think it is a heavy weight O/S
I don't like dealing with it
but i worked with Fedora and it was nice,Centos : problems with hardware ,and now i want to try SUSE i had heard that is good too
I found :
1-use enterprise sp2 for 60 days
2-Opensue 11.1
I have now my new Hp laptop it is "Hp 6730s"
I searched on the site and it tells "suse 10 enterprise recommended "
which one shall i use ?
the next thing that will it run my scripts like tcl and others??
will it make me convenient with multimedia programs and codecs??
thanks a lot for you time :)

Enterprise is recommended because it is symbiotic: You get help, they get a profit. You like, you buy more, they make more, ad infinitum.
The open version will do just as well, no professional support.

khodeir 03-08-2009 06:17 PM

but it is 60 days only
and what about this :
http://openbytes.wordpress.com/2008/...essage-to-all/
is that a good thing???

Mr-Bisquit 03-08-2009 11:31 PM

If you want to try Suse, go for the open version.
If you have the money to spend, go for the enterprise version.
In my experience, Suse and OpenSuse doesn't support all amd64 capable CPUs.
And, like stated before many times, it is extremely resource hungry.

You can download a sneak preview and try to migrate it to an open version.

will the rpm for redhat or mandriva work on opensuse??
because i have some programs recommend redhat and i wish it can work on openSuse

billymayday 03-09-2009 07:21 AM

Probably not, unless it's a distro independent rpm. Use with caution - you may break your system.
