A Scanning Program

I was wondering if there was another image editing/scanning program out there other than The Gimp? I recently installed SUSE 9.3 and noticed that there is a problem with the iscan software from epson and The Gimp (I am using an all-in-one Epson Stylus CX5400). I can print, from what I have done, but scanning is another issue. You do get a standard scanning program with SUSE, but I have failed to get that one to work properly. I can't select a scanning device because I think during set up in Yast, since there is an issue with the iscan software/driver, it just isn't working, so I am looking for any help/advice (besides getting another scanner)

Thanks for any help,

-TS-

Did you already try everything mentioned in the following thread?

Yeah, but that really doesn't apply. From what I gather, it is a software problem between the driver that Epson created (iscan) and the software to scan (the Gimp 2.0). I could try to use an earlier version of the Gimp, but don't know how to downgrade from Yast. Still a little new at this...
