5.1 Sound Card Compatibility and SuSE 9.2

My SuSE installation is working great and I no longer need to appeal to my Windoze partition for anything. My next big plan is to install a 5.1 or 7.1 sound card in my computer. Currently I have an onboard (integrated) sound card on my IBM NetVista computer. I purchased a sound card which many Linux sites said was compatible:

CREATIVE SB Live!

However, I could not get it to work on my SuSE machine, or my brother's Xandros 2.0 machine. Which sound card will work out of the box and provide 5.1/7.1 surround? If and when it does work, do I need to disable the integrated sound card on the motherboard? Your suggestions please . . .

M-Audio Revolution 5.1/, Audigy 2 ZS(Not LS), and Sound Blaster Live 5.1

Check http://www.opensound.com/ and http://www.alsa-project.org/ to see which cards and chipsets are supported.
