Hello,

I am having problems with the 3d acceleration on my system. I am running a
nVidia Geforce... 5900 SE. I used YOU to install the nVidia driver (This is
a new installation of Suse and I am a Linux Newbie), and all went well (so
it said). So I restart the system and all but it still doesn't enable the
3d support. So when I go into Yast and hit hardware > graphics card and
monitor > change (opens SaX2) > 3d acceleration > and I check that 3d box,
it gives me the "cannot enable openGL acceleration" because of a lack of
that nvidia driver (the one YOU said I just sucesfully installed).

Any help would be great... thank you!

I had problems with that too. I ended up installing the kernel-source package, gcc and then installing the nvidia driver right from nvidia.com. It then worked. This was with 9.3 tho.

It's the best solution.
I run gentoo which also has is own nVidia kernel package, and I have run Debians, Mandrakes and SUSEs in many flavours...
The best is always get the driver from nvidia.com and install it yourself.

I myself just fixed the smae problem what you have to do is:

1. Down load the Nvidia driver for your card from their website.

2.leave the Xwindow on your system by using this set of commands:

#su
<
your root pass word>

$init 3

3. cd to the folder that you downloaded the driver too.

4. type in

sh <driver name> -q

you may have an error when you try to run this script, it is most likey caused by not haveing the kernel sources available to the script.

If you have that error merely install the sources.

where do install the kernel sources from?

If you are using Suse then you can just use Yast. Just type in "kernel sources" in to the search bar. Select the appropriate source and install.
Or you can manually install the sources.
