32 vs 64 bit ftp install

Have been running the 32 bit version of 9.1 on an AMD64 machine. Tried to let Yast update to 64 bit but well lets just say is was ugly. So I downloaded the the boot.iso and tried to reinstall just using the x86_64 bit folders. The boot cd for the 64 bit version did not configure the hardwae and so the install failed. Works great in the 32bit version. Any ideas?

Stop being cheap and actually buy it? Then use the installation support if it doesnt work?
