2.6.28.5 to 2.6.30.4 - hangs during shutdown

I am running Suse 10.2 on my laptop and have been compiling my kernal for a while. Unfortunately, after trying the latest two stable releases from kernel.org, I'm finding 2.6.30.4 and .5 hang during shutdown. I have a Dell 600m, which shuts down fine when I go back to using kernel 2.6.28.5

Is there perhaps a setting I must now set in menuconfig?

Regards,
Kurt

You might try as a kernel parameter for GRUB acpi=force. HTH.

I added that to my 2.6.30-4 entry in menu.lst and it didn't help. I still get the same yellow lines and no complete shutdown upon choosing shutdown for that kernel version. The older still works fine.

Hmm, I'm out of ideas here. Last resort might be you google for APCI in combination with your kernel(s) and "error", maybe that's a known error. I seem to remember having read something along these lines but I don't know anymore where. There might exist a list of known bugs at kernel.org too.
