-=- Command Line MP3s -=-

Okay, I can play my mp3s in my openSuse 10.2 install using Helix as my player. I was fooling around and discovered that I cannot 'play' mp3s using the command play getting the following message:

sox: Failed reading 01 Dreams Never End.mp3: Do not understand format type: mp3

Is there anything I need to do to be able to play from command line?

I don't know about Helix... But you can download mpg123 and try it out...
It works for me...

PS: It's also command line.

I also found out that Amarok will not work for me, for some reason. Do I need to install some sort of mp3 support? Using Helix, I can play mp3s, it identifies album art, artist name, etc.

I tried getting the mpg123, but I did not succeed. I used the
apt-get install mpg123 command, which has been working for all installs/updates that I do...

This is curious...

You need libxine to play mp3s with Amarok. You can find instructions here: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/MP3_on_openSUSE_10.2

mplayer is also excellent, you can read from playlist textfile.
