YaST doesn't open
Hey all,
I'm a new user and have installed SuSE 9.3 with Gnome as the Xwindow system. I've been trucking along fairly nicely, but have started running into problems installing RPMs. For the first while YaST would open right up and let me install the programs, but lately it hasn't been working. More often then not, nothing happens at all. I try double-clicking, selecting and hitting enter, and right clicking->Open with YaST but still nothing seems to work. Is this a common error, or just one that I'm plagued with? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt |
If you look inside /tmp have you got any directories that are named YaST*?

Hey,
Yeah, there's one folder, but it's empty. Should I delete it? Thanks, Matt |
Well this happened to me a while ago. The power went off and before it went off I was working in YaST. So when the power came back I switched on the pc and went back into YaST, and the package manager just hung. So I looked i /tmp and found these YaST* folders, I then deleted them and all was ok. Everything went back to normal. I don't know if this well help you,but that's how I fixed it for myself.
Cheers. |
I'll give that a shot after work. I'll just delete everything in the tmp folder... that should get it :)
BTW, is there a way to specify where the programs actually get installed to? I like to keep everything neat so that I know where it is. So far I've just been installing and they magically appear. Thanks, Matt |
Code:
rpm -ql MozillaFirefox Uhh don't delete everything in /tmp! You'll end up with bigger problems. Just remove what I said. |
Hahah Good thing you replied quickly.
So /tmp isn't just a temp folder for files that aren't needed after a certain process is completed? Thanks, Matt |
Well, here's another thing that happened to me... I once did a:
Code:
rm -rf /tmp/*/ So you learn a little now and then ;-) |
