SUSE install

Well i would like to install Suse 10.

But i dont want to burn the iso's.

So tell me which one of these is possible and how do i go about it please.

1. Network install.- Can i boot from a floppy disk and show the installation the path to the isos?

2. Can i burn 1 cd and then boot from it and direct it to the isos.

I dont have any linux distro installed currently so plz dont give a solution that involves something to do in the shell.

Download the opensuse_startup_en.pdf file from the opensuse.org web site. It details many options for installing.
You could create a boot floppy and install from an ftp or http source.

There is a single CD minimal KDE installation you could use as well and install additional packages latter.

You can perform a full installation over the internet as well. This
link http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version will get you the first CD of what you need.

Pick a mirror near you, and download the start-cd-image. Burn it, boot from it, and follow the instructions.

I tried to do the internet installation like that and SuSE asked me for a address or site that has the sources. You could either set one up on your home network with the full isos and give it the inet address or locate the full iso site before you start the installation.

How-to for internet install

I've done this with 10.1 & 10.2 successfully.

This is the Wiki for installing 10.2 - http://en.opensuse.org/INSTALL_Internet

This as the server IP for download.opensuse.org: 195.135.221.130

For 10.1 use this directory for the install: /distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/

When you get to the page which allows you to select additional sources/packages
you can add this directory with the above server:
for 10.2 - /distribution/10.2/repo/non-oss/
for 10.1 - /distribution/SL-10.1/non-oss-inst-source

If you want to use another mirror, look on the mirrors page http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version

And this page has a listing of Suse, KDE & GNOME repositories: http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories

and for add-ons:
http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_Ya...e_Repositories
