suse 9.2 cant detect cd-rw device

Hi i have an old lg 48x cd-rw... when i open the yast cd-rom section crashes ....
The k3b cant recognize the cd-rw device... The device works fine not only in windows 2000 as a cd burner but also in suse 9.2 for reading data cds
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrecorder
works fine but still when i try to add the device as /dev/hdc k3b responds that this is not a valid cd-rw device...
What else should i do?
