SuSE 10.1 : can't get prism wifi card to work...

Hi all,

I'm trying to move from 10.0 to 10.1, but I'm stuck with wifi issues... I have a USB wifi adapter from my ISP. It's a noname, but lsusb shows it's an airvast with prism chipset. It's working *almost* fine in 10.0 (after reboot, I need to ifup it or to reconfigure it completely through yast), but I can't get it working in 10.1.

It has been detected during install, worked fine after first boot. Since second boot (without any changes on the system...), it's just not being activated by SuSE ! I tried various methods, through yast or ifup, leaving it managed by ifup or NetworkManager, but to no avail.

Does anyone have this kind of chipset and use it with success in 10.1 ? Thanks in advance,

Willy

im not sure if this helps but i found with the IPW2200 wireless card it did not work within 10.1 straight out of the box becuase the firmware for the card was not included... Although the card was detected fine in YaST etc.. i could not use it and when doing #iwconfig commands it was not listed.

simply downloading the firmware and copying to a location under /lib/firmware and then rebooting reslved the problem.

also maybe woth checking that the prism modules are loaded after booting up.
do a #lsmod and look for something that relates to your prism card.

if it is USB - try the below it should list the module and show that it is linked to the usbcore module:

$ lsmod |grep prism
prism2_usb 77060 0
usbcore 130692 5 prism2_usb,usbhid,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd

Graz,

Thanks for the information. I will try that when I come home, and will post results.

solved

Well, it seems I got it solved... I chose to control the card through ifup rather than from NetworkManager, but I had to reboot to get it working

Anyway, thanks for the help Graz (lsmod gave the same results as in 10.0)

Cheers,

Willy
