poor scanresolution with hp officejet 6110

I am the proud owner of a HP 6110 officejet. The printer works perfectly well, the scanner ... well ... it works. I can scan, no doubt, but the resolution is poor. The maximal resolution SANE allows me is 600 dpi. Now, I know that the scanner is capable of far higher resolutions. I had it installed under Mandrake 10.1 before and could go to its physical maximum of 1,200 * 1,200 dpi without any problem. Why doesn't this work in SuSe 9.2??? I'm using both, Kooka and XSane, have reinstalled Sane using YAST - nothing changed. I am lost here, any suggestions???

start

the easy way is to log in as root and then just type ptal-init start.

after that both xsane and kooka should recognize the device and scan - but only at a max res of 600 dpi, which is sort of frustrating, since I need higher res to scan slides in.....
