Check your quote:
Quote:
Open a terminal as root then type: installations_sources -a your source then hit enter
Exchange "your source" for one of the above URL and have fun.

If you do it from YaST, you have to split the URL into the "server" part (e.g. ftp.gwdg.de) and the "directory" part (e.g. pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0). Note that the "directory" doesn't start with a slash and ends in the folder with a file called directory.yast. If this file is not present, it's not a YaST source!

I edited my last post, have a look.

It's easy to check whether the URL is correct: type it in your browser and see if you end up in the directory that contains the file 'directory.yast' if not, the path is wrong or the server has no YaST source.

- Check for mirrors. The main servers, like ftp.opensuse.org and ftp.suse.com may not be reachable all the time and if they are, they might be very slow.

- Use the correct protocol. It may be that ftp.opensuse.org allows http transfers, but it would make more sense to use ftp:// for ftp.opensuse.org

- Cross check the URL for typos.

- Some links in this thread may have become obsolete (version changes!). So did the first URL of yours. Browse the server and look for changes.

EDIT: And read carefully! The second URL was never stated as a YaST source, but as a source of information!

"Open a terminal as root then type: installations_sources -a your source then hit enter"

Not if you want to upgrade your software. By the way there is also a dvd that has this added on.

Hey friends, well i use suse 10.1 which is an awsome distro. which i love to use. But its got a little problem like the yast online update wont work at all like mandriva online update. In mandriva 2006 the GUI will take care of contacting the server and getting the update list and installing them, but the same kinda steps wont work in suse 10.1 i dont know why?, well if you guys know any solutions so that the yast online update itself automatically update my linux box with out much configuration then please help me.
Thanks

Software update via Zen is somewhat "broken" out of the box in 10.1, check the following link for the fix/workaround to get it working properly:

Alternatively, you could use Smart Package Manager instead:

Easy,

- Perps.
