i did what the jemreport said... still didnt get mp3 support, java dependencies still fail, and video didnt show up
so i searched mpeg and clicked everything... ive got the hard drive space
mpeg videos work... mp3s work in noatun... not xmms...i dunno why...
java still wont work, havent tested flash or acrobat reader...
usualy when i try a new os i keep installing stuff till i know what i need... then format and follow my list to the T... i know enough about linux to install stuff and fix some mistakes.... but i make more then i can fix most of the time
Can you post a link to one/any of these videos you are trying to get to stream? Let's see if it is surely on your end. I have seen some streaming, I wonder how many, as I rarely ever look.
go to movies.yahoo.com/trailers and pick any movie and try to watch its trailer. Or, go to movietickets.com and again try to see any previews. Dunno why...
They are both mms:// streams. Maybe that's the problem? All I know is it's not working right. I thought maybe the dvd eval version came with video stream support but i guess not.
Is there any way maybe you can post a step by step for me to follow? I'll just reinstall 64bit and start from scratch. I'll install just the versions you say of everything you say. Like i586 instead of x86_64... I just want it to work if that's possible. In the meantime I made my amaroK not open at all up... I think I did that installing xmms... I suck at this. Thanks
Okay, here is me watching the Legend of Zorro Trailer, looks like a good one btw, I can't wait. Screenshot It does look rather black, instead of what I hoped for, but it does play video.
I also listen to Alice 105.9's Live Feed, which is mms.
So go figure... Perhaps the best thing to do, is remove all media players and libraries, and replace them all from packman, just in case SuSE's are causing the whole issue.
First of all, you have got to tell me where you got that taskbar theme at... It looks so sweet and I want something like that too
As for the media... here's my saturday plan while i'm at work waiting:
1. Reinstall x86_64 suse 10 from DVD for the fourth time.
2. Install ALL i586 plugins for sound. That will be: w32codec-all, mplayer (64bit is only which satisfy dependencies), mplayerplug-in, kaffeine-mozilla.
3. Remove Java 1.4.2 i586 and replace with java 1.5 i586.
4. Test and hope it works.
Here's my question, is that all I need to install or should I add more to the list. I want just the basics for now to work. I will go into adding more later.
If none of the above work, I will just install 32bit version Such a waste of my 4000+ though... Still, I like SuSe. I don't know why but I like it more than others.
I like SuSE because of how it looks, how it works, their stance on linux, and YAST, and hardware compatability... anywho...
Actually the kicker(it isn't called a taskbar in Linux, in KDE it is known as a kicker, I made that mistake not even a month ago...) is just transparent black about 40% transparent. No theme at all. I made the button myself, and posted on KDE LOOK. The rest is rearranging the kicker, and then going into "configure panel" by right clicking it, last tab, advanced button, set the dividers to "hide."
Here is how I would go about reinstalling, I did it myself once because of how it worked out and my crummy software choices the first time I did a SuSE 10 install. You need to install your choice of packages. Then run YOU(Yast ONLINE UPDATE) which will update many things, including FF to 1.0.7 then you run "Software Manager" in YAST. search for amarok, uninstall anything there, xine, kaffeine, everything media related, uninstall it all. Add the packman, and guru, and other sources to the "Installation Sources," being sure to disable the CD/DVD as a source, for now, and setting all others to enable and refresh on, and then run the "Software Manager" again. It should take a lot longer as it has many sources to check updates on. Once it loads up, install all amarok, xine, kaffeine, mplayer and the FF Plugin, w32codec-all(do it all at once, YAST remembers multiple selections, so don't worry about that), and everything else you need(you don't need the devels, but if you want to, you can get those too). Check the autocheck for dependencies, and click the check for button next to it. It shouldn't complain about any depencies because it will resolve them all from the server. After having selected everything, click next, and then finish.
Then get your Java, Flash, AcroRead, etc. And you should be set.
I have a screen capture here: SnapShot1.png and it shows what i'm complaining about. I did all your instructions and removed everything then reinstalled them from the packman site. Maybe the screen capture will help describe the problem I am having. Thanks so much.
Well, I may be chalking you up to the good ole 64bit multimedia issue which is going on heavily in another thread.
It may be that using the 64bit OS of SuSE is not allowing certain video files to be played, actually it is supposedly the multipmedia apps, which if replacedfully by 32bit apps should be fine, but that might be "dependency hell"...that might be one of those types.
Those of us using SuSE currently only as a tool on our side boxes are stuck with 32bit. So I run 32bit OpenSuSE. I have a p4 1.5, it is nice, but not as nice as my main tower. I am learning SuSE and Linux to the tee before I take the plunge onmy main tower.
LOL... I'm running it like this: 20gb HD dedicated to Linux. Have 2 sata 34gb raided together for windows but suse doesn't detect the windows drivers and doesn't assign raid and so they basically never get touched. Then , I have a storage drive (40gb ide) which i share between linux and windows for music and photos and whatnot. Now, if I want to boot to linux, I just select boot sequence on PC's BIOS and boot from the 20gb HD. Else, I just let the computer regual boot to windows. If I ever have boot errors, they are only on the linux side, where they are easy to fix. That's how I took the plunge for the main tower Or if I wanna reinstall everything, well I do so without losing any data by moving stuff to the storage drive. As of now though I have no linux data to save other than pain getting 32bit and 64bit to work together
