Installed m2300w print driver for Magicolor 2400w lp, but still won't print.

I've using Suse 11.0 on a dual boot machine. I have Suse on a separate hd. I read a thread that explained how to install the m2300w driver for a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W lp. The install went without incident. However, I am still unable to print. When I try to print a Word type doc, no error message is generated, but the printer's Ready light never blinks to indicate it is receiving data. It stays solid and nothing is printed. Whey I try to print a test page from Yast/Hardware/Printer, it tells me the command was sent to the printer and it should print in a few seconds. Same results. No error message, the printer just stares at me and never responds. I don't think the driver install is the problem as it installed as described with no problems. I've been tinkering with Suse for some time now, but just started venturing off and trying to install stuff beyond games and such. I've got a good robust internet connection and can play DVDs using VLC. I just need to get the printer going and I'll feel like I've got a good build going here.

P.S. I followed the procedure outlined in a thread here at linuxquestions.org and was able to get DVDs to play flawlessly. So, I feel confident the driver install is not the problem.

Help...

My fault...here are the components of my system.

PC
AMD Athlon 3000+ 64-bit
MSI MS-6720 mb
1G RAM
80G WD hd

Suse 11.0
kernel: 2.6.25.11-0.1
KDE 4
CUPS version: unknown (don't know how to find out)

I saw a thread where it was suggested to go through Konqueror and it worked for that individual. I can't find that thread again and don't recall the details, other than enter "settings:/Peripherals/" in the address bar. That gets me no where. Konqueror responds with unknown address.

Hope this helps give more details.

More info...

I tried to download and install the driver m2300w from sourceforge.net using Firefox 3. I chose to install from within Firefox rather than save to disk. After logging in as root, I got the following error:

Error: RPM failed: file /usr/bin/m2300w from install of m2300w-0.51-1 conflicts with file from package cups-drivers-1.3.6-32.1. (it repeats this statement a second time)

HELP!!!!

Why in the first place install anything.?
Package 'cups-drivers-1.3.6-32.1' probably
contains all the "m2300w" stuff you need.
(Hence the "conflicts issue")

I do not know this printer, but the files
seems to be there and the 2 tools :
/usr/bin/m2300w and /usr/bin/m2300w-wrapper
..to be used. (try to run 'm2300w' .. shows
a lot of options).

To display files in package cups-drivers
please do command 'rpm -ql cups-drivers'

Also usefull :
'find /usr -name *m2300w*

Good Luck !

Thanks for the response knudfl:

I ran the rpm -ql cups-drivers command and it looks like all the m2300w stuff is indeed there. Below is a list of what popped up with reference to m2300w.

/usr/share/doc/packages/cups-drivers/m2300w-0.51
/usr/share/doc/packages/cups-drivers/m2300w-0.51/COPYING
/usr/share/doc/packages/cups-drivers/m2300w-0.51/INSTALL
/usr/share/doc/packages/cups-drivers/m2300w-0.51/README
/usr/share/doc/packages/cups-drivers/m2300w-0.51/README.ghostscript
/usr/share/m2300w
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/CHP410-1200-AutoColor.crd
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/CHP410-1200-Draft.crd
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/CHP410-1200-Photo-kh.crd
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/CHP410-1200-Photo.crd
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/defrgb-AdobeRGB.csa
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/defrgb-builtin.csa
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/defrgb-gimp-print.csa
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/defrgb-sRGB.csa
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/epilogue.ps
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/prolog.ps
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/screen1200.ps
/usr/share/m2300w/0.51/psfiles/screen2400.ps
/usr/share/ppd

Also, referring to /usr/bin/m2300w and /usr/bin/m2300w-wrapper, both files are there. So, it looks everything is there.

In addition, I guess I'm much more of a newbie than I thought..how do you 'run m2300w'? I tried to do exactly that (logged in as root), 'run m2300w' without the quotes. Result...bash: command not found.

Stuck with everything I need...

Ref. #1
Quote:

It seems you installed something, which probably
have disturbed cups-drivers-1.3.6-32.1 or some
of the files.

The 'rpm -ql .. ' command will look in /var/lib/rpm
for the info and tell what was installed, but not
telling about things accidentally deleted.

Suggest : Reinstall the package with Yast.

Sorry, did you use the command "run" ??
It is not correct and will not work.

The command is 'm2300w' or '/usr/bin/m2300w'
(with no quote marks) to see the options.

Thanks again...my wife has had the computer tied up for that last two nights. Two questions though for when get back at the wheel.

(1). Quote:
Suggest : Reinstall the package with Yast.
I assume you mean to reinstall the cups-drivers-1.3.6-32.1 package??

(2). Once that is done...Display the options using 'm2300w' command. Am I then looking for an install type command?? If the files are already in the cups-drivers package, won't the process of configuring the printer in Yast look for those same files. When you try to configure the printer, initially it tells me what printer it sees, the Magicolor 2400w. It will say its 'not configured'. When you try to configure it, about all you can do is set it as default and then try to 'Print Test Page', which of course doesn't work as explained in earlier entry. Will any of the options from the 'm2300w' command change that??

Sorry...but I think I'm confused...not as much as I was, but enough to be stuck. I'll do what I know to do and then report back.

Ok knudfl...

I reinstalled the cups-drivers package, no problems. But beyond that, I'm clueless. I pulled up the options using 'm2300w' in a terminal window logged in as root. There's several of them. I just don't know what to do next. I tried to configure the printer using the Add button, but it will say something like 'Error: select printer class or model'. When I try to select the model, my model isn't in the list. When I try to configure the printer by letting it autodetect and then just use the configure button, the test page will not print. Everything goes fine, the printer just doesn't respond. The Ready light never blinks, no page is printed. If the m2300w-0.051 file is in the cups-drivers package, what do I do with it??

Well, I just thought, the m2300w command cold be usefull.

The problem is that this printer will not always work on
Linux .. "..works Mostly" ref. this
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...agicolor_2400W

Searching Google with the "keyword" .. minolta 2400w linux .. :
.. first hint, from LQ !
http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...134/cat/myprod
.. "..push the "cancel" button for the print to process.."
and please read all text on the page.

And .. http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/
( another driver setup ) taking you to this
http://sourceforge.net/projects/m2300w/
which is probably what you already have.

Another .. http://orion.laylalawlor.com/software/min00/

I hope you will find a solution.

Regards

Hey knudfl...

I found an article on Google that explained that the m2300w driver only works with the 32-bit kernel. I had installed the 64-bit kernel. I installed the 32-bit Suse 11.0 and then installed the driver using localhost:631. Works like a charm. I haven't printed enough to notice any nuances, but it printed the Test Page really well. Thanks for your help...
