You need to ensure that your ADSL Router is set up as per your ISP instructions. You can usually do this via a web browser.
Connect a Network piece of cable to your router / modem. The computer should have a network card built in -- use a Wired connection for setting up as 99% of current NIC cards on this planet in current use work with most Linux distros. Ensure the network card is active (ifup eth0) - use the "traditional" method of starting Networks rather than the newer method. ===> Set the option in YAST Point your browser at the address 192.168.X.X (you should find this in the ADSL Router's manual). Then set up your ADSL connections with the parameters your ISP gives you. Each ISP tends to have its own set of values for the parameters shown below. These are generally Protocol (normally PPPoA) VP /VCI Encapsulation Qos Class (maybe) Username Password MTU Now your router should give you connected status. Once that's working you should be able to connect to the internet - use DHCP on your router. If your router / box doesn't give you any LAN connections then "Bin" that box and just buy a decent ADSL / Router box. They are cheap enough and work with pretty well all ISP's. The advantage of these is that they usually have Wireless as well as 4 or so Wired connections. The Wireless facility can be which can be really useful if you want to use a Laptop around your house. Enter parameters as I've posted above. Cheers -K |
