Do you meet the Minimum configuration requirements???

Did you notice this warning;

Google Earth is a broadband, 3D application that not all computers can run.

* Desktop computers older than 4 years old may not be able to run it.
* Notebook computers older than 2 years old may not be able to run it.

Did you do 'chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin' minus the single quotemarks before starting the install script.

I am guessing he did +x since he said he installed, try running it via command line and post the back trace.

Hi Lenard,

Well, yes, I have the requested configuration. GoogleEarth worked well in my previous SuSE 10.0.
Can you be a little more explicite about 'chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin' minus the single quotemarks before starting the install script. I think that this is a problem. I am not sure how to 'chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin' minus the single quotemarks before starting the install script. Could you be a little more explicite how exactly I have to do this. (You should know that I am a little too old to learn Linux after so many years of using Wins. I need some more time - HI!!). Thanks anyway. I would appreciate your instructions.
regards

No problem.
doing this:

chmod +x GoogleEarth.bin (or whatever the file is called)

Sets the google earth installer as executable, so you run it.
But I dunno if this is your problem. You have google earth installed already, right? Like someone else said, try running it in a terminal and see if it give any kind of error messages that might let us know what the problem is.

Hi PatrickMay 16,

It is not important whether I start it in Terminal as root or from YASt>Programs. It starts and (I can not say it stops ) at the initializing . At that moment my processor usage is (all together)100% and stays there. Nothing happened. I have to kill GoogleEarth to stop.

Is there somebody who has the same problem and has resolved it? I am trying almost impossible but no success. As I said, the installation of GoogleEarth was 100% good and when I start the program the initializing window opens and the proc usage goes up to 100% and that is all. Processor is working like hell but nothing happens.

Maybe your screnn color depth is set at 24 and needs to be set at 16, this and possible other troubleshooting steps can be found here;

Do you have 3D acceleration working for your video card? With Nvidia cards you have to install the driver (and possibly edit xorg.conf) to make 3D work. My 3D is not working and Google earth will not run anymore.

Good luck.

Yes, I have. I have ATI Radeon 9700, the fglrx driver is installed. I have to say that GoogleEarth has been working until some updates/upgrades, even with Mesa open GL, only slowly. I want to find out what is the reason, that it stopped working.

1)
Quote:
Google Earth for GNU/Linux 4.0.1693
download the latest version which is 4.0.2xxx
2)don't know about ATI (in the case of nVidia latest beta drivers works best)
3) no need to install as root (unless you have multiuser setup and want everybody to use Google Earth)

My system:
suse 10.1 32-bit
nVidia Go 7400 (driver version 9625)
Google Earth installed as user

This works

Hi broch,

No help. The result is the same.
bgorjup@Bogomir:~/Prenosi> sh. GoogleearthLinux.bin
bash: sh.: command not found
bgorjup@Bogomir:~/Prenosi> sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

and here everything stops. Processor usage is on 99% and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Esc to kill the process.

hmm..
I used Google Earth on suse 10.0 64-bit and also on 10.1 32-bit. i have not seen any issues with installation. However I was/I am using nVidia card. Maybe check Google Earth mailing list (?) regarding ATI and the software.

You may also see what sort of upgrades happened between working/not working state.

Another thing would be to completely erease any trace (including config files) of previous installation of Google Earth and then install again. This is probably the easiest thing to do first.

As I said, GoogleEarth worked on this computer. I have AMD Athlon 64bit proc (64bit SuSE), ATI 9700 (9600. It worked (two or three weeks ago)until updating/upgrading my system. It really is weird. I spent a lot of time googling and trying to solve this but all in vain.

Anyway thanks for your help.
