Yep, that's your best bet. Copy the DVD to a local network path or dedicated partition if you want the install to go really fast.

Hey, at least you werent greeted with Christmas Penguins dancing around the edges of the very first screen at install like i was lol. I wish I could have screen shotted that, that was un freaking believable lol. I posted my results with Suse 10.2 as well, I think Ill wait a bit longer before trying again.

I think it does that according to the date. I saw the "pingus" themed boot menu on the dvd, too. I have seen it on earlier versions, as well.

Update: Upgrade on the laptop successful using maxcpus=0. Three machines, three successful upgrades from 10.1.
