ACPI issues on install?

Hello,

I recently purchased an AM2 board with a 4600+ dual core AMD processor. I'll post what Asus board it is later today. Anyway, I am unable to get past the boot portion on the 10.2 DVD which I downloaded. I have it running on another system, but when I choose the install option, the system does nothing, it just hangs. I have disabled ACPI on the boot, and still have the same issue. Has anybody else had issue with dual-core processors? Or could it be something on the mother board? I can load ubuntu 7.04 after I disable ACPI. Suse is so solid, I want to use it.

Regards,

Randy.

Question Need More Motherboard Infomation

I am running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ AM2 on an ECS GeForce6100SM-M motherboard in a dual boot mode. Windows XP is located on an internal 160 gig Serial ATA drive and SuSE 10.2 is located on an External 500 gig USB hard drive. I am using an nVidia 7600 video card instead of the built-in video. While there are several changes that must be made to get SuSE to run on an External Hard Drive, I have had no other issues running SuSE.

I just think we need to know more info on your motherboard/video/memory/hard drive setup and the chipset your motherboard uses.

Thank You,

When you see the installation screen, type "acpi_use_timer_override" or "noapic" in the options field without the quotes ofcourse. One of the two should work.

The mother board is an ASUS M2N. The sound also does not work, yet Ubuntu picks it up fine.
