repository designations

greetings!

i'd like to have the Slackware repository available, to pull in some extra audio packages (or to determine that i need to compile some needed programs!), but have some questions...

i've read the repo help note in the package manager and that all makes sense. however, some things about repo setup are still not clear:

1. when i tick boxes in the "choose repositories" panel, the listed repositories don't change in the "repositories" panel of the main package manager window -- it just always lists "main" and "puppy-5".

2. i've read the add repo help file (/usr/local/petget/README-add-repo-htm) -- that makes sense. however, in /etc/DISTRO_SPECS, *both* the DISTRO_BINARY_COMPAT and the DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION variables are set to 'slackware'! that would make the packages database URI resolve to http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/sla...ware-slackware which doesn't exist. shouldn't DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION be set to a version number, i.e. '13.37'?

3. as an aside, i've also noticed that DISTRO_KERNEL_PET='linux_kernel-3.0.7-rt20.pet' in /etc/DISTRO_SPECS. however, uname shows the running kernel is 3.8.4-l0wt3ch-rt2 -- is that discrepancy important or meaningful?

thanks much... cheers!

ok... i changed DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION to 13.37, and now the update process actually DOES stuff, and the appropriate repos show up in the left panel, and the packages listed at the various repo sites show up in the package manager!

does anyone else have anything to add here?... if not, i'll go ahead and mark this SOLVED.

cool.

Hi there,

No, the kernel version mentioned in /etc/DISTRO_SPECS doesn't matter.

And nothing has been changed in the package manager by Studio 13.37; it's the same that came with Slacko, which 13.37 is based on.

Cheers!
