Smile Package manager concerns...Particular to Studio-13.37

Hi,

I got the flashdrive to install to my harddrive.
(see question below all this)
I'm using sda3 as /

and sda4 as /root/local.

sda1 is win8 (free pre-release trial (runs out by feb 2013)}

The normal user is away 2 weeks at (even) a time, (2 weeks on tw0 weeks off.)

This one of my systems (#2), that I have built from leftover parts from the last years upgrade disasters, 3 of.

It's a 6 core AMD @3.2G on a Ga-990fxa-ud3 (rev 1.1) with 8 gigs of 2133 patriot ram (runs at 1600, currently. lol!) and a terrabyte of WD Black sata drive. It's pretty comparable to my #1 system. main diff... amd fx8150 with 16gb of corsair vengence 1600MHz. and the graphics cards are similar, #2 has a gtx560-1Gb and #1 has a gfx570-1388Mb.

Both systems are a pleasure to use.

Nearly all of my GNU/Linux experience comes from Learning with Mandriva (thanks heaps), so some things are strange and some are familiar.

Package manager issue,

I see lots of files called i486, i686.
I'm trying to run a 64bit system.

Is there any disadvantage to the core of the Studio-13.37 if I install any of those packages? Sometimes Hydrogen won't start after installing some files, like (gnu)office, mesa, can't find GLEW!

Should I load "any" other (read: outside "Studio-13.37)Package (sfs/pet), or just be content with a shithot recorder/mixer? I'm happy, really happy.

edit, less is better, I loaded the mesa-dev, mesa and installed the themes and all is good(?).

You can install pretty much anything from the package manager (except the nvidia drivers).

The 64-bit version of Studio 13.37's kernel is compiled with support for 32-bit emulation, so the programs should run with no issues.

Also, Slackware 13.37 packages are compatible with Studio 13.37, and so are SlackBuilds.

Hope that helps!

trying to do some SlackBuilds, they all terminate output saying no C compiler is found.
I look in /usr/lib/gcc, and the last folder is an empty.

I don't see any buildpkg or similar. I downloaded gcc-4.5.2-x86_64-2.txz, but
can it be installed without those tools?
Cheers

You need the devx sfs. Right-click and choose "sfs-load".

Buildpkg is definitely there, don't worry.
