won't change ip address
Hi, i'm running Solaris 10,
Currently, its ip address is set to 192.168.0.4, and i'm trying to change it to 192.168.0.3. Everytime i run
Code:
ifconfig hme0 set 192.168.0.3
, It works, but everytime i reboot the machine, it goes back to the old .4 ip address..
What gives? How can i make the change permanant?
Thanks =)

They changed this up a bit in Solaris 10. You need to make that ifconfig change and then make sure that you have also made the changes to /etc/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes. You will be good to go then... Changing or adding an IP address to the hostname.hme0 file will do nothing for you. That file is just to let the system know that you will be using that device. Inside the file you could have donald duck and it would still serve its purpose.

You're right /etc/hosts and /etc/ipnodes must match the new address, this is obvious, but where is the "donald duck" feature you describe documented ???
When I look in the /lib/svc/method/net-physical script, I see the same use of the hostname.<interface> file to set the IP address as it used to be previous versions ...

I actually followed jlliagre's reply, and stuck my address in /etc/hostname.hme0. It changed it on my next reboot. I'll read up on the other methods too.
Thanks
