Which Databases in nsswitch.conf can be used with "dns" keyword

Hi all,

When we are configuring a DNS client, we need to configure the name service switch to tell the client to use DNS.
Which two are databases in the name service switch for the dns keyword is valid?

I see there are a lot of databases in nsswitch.conf file and as I know we just need to specify "dns" with "hosts" database as:
Code:
hosts: files dns
My question is which is the second database that we can use "dns" keyword with?

My research from MAN pages
Quote:
The following sources may be used:

Source Uses
...
dns Valid only for hosts; uses the Internet
...

Not sure to understand your question.
As the manual states, dns can be used only for hosts (and ipnodes in recent Solaris).

Sorry for my bad explanation (i'm not native in English).

Btw, you can help me to find out the answer. Instructor ask me to choose 2 databases among the hosts, ipnodes, services, netmasks and networks. These databases can be used with keywork "dns" in the nsswitch.conf file.

After I read the man pages, I think that only hosts can used with dns, what is the second??? Your reply gives the second to me, ipnodes.

Thanks.

That depends on the Solaris version you are using, as I already mentioned.
