what to install sol-10

i was wondering what to install with solaris 10. i am going to be using it as a basic desktop. i would like to be able to surf the web,print,scan,and run some charting software that is brouser/java based. should i also burn the iso-10-ccd-GA-x86-iso before i install the os and will i need it.should i do a complete install with or with out oem saport. also i will be installing on a hard disk that has linux installed how should i partion. thank you for your time

Yes, you can use it as a regular desktop; and it is pretty stable

Burn the Solaris 10 CD images on your current OS (make sure to burn 'em as bootable CDs). You have to download the developer tools CD image (it will be under "optional" section of downloads) as well, if you wish to build applications just like the way you do on Linux

During installation, select "Interactive" installation in the initial screen and:
      - "complete" installation in subsequent screen, if you wish the install all the available packages Or
      - "custom" installation in subsequent screen, if you wish to install only the packages that you need

Installer shows all the partitions before the actual installation begins. So, make sure you are not overwriting the Linux partition (Output of "fdisk -l" on Linux helps here)

As long as the Linux partition is intact, you need not worry about Solaris installation and you can fix simple issues like dual booting (if boot loader fails to recognize the new OS), later
