What is the latest version of Solaris??

I wanted to know what is the latest version of Solaris is?? I'm not sure but i would say is Solaris 9. Am i right?? Is Solaris free to download?? I mostly want links that i could download for free. I don't have any type of credit card to pay or download anything offline. Well that's it for now. If i can get Solaris for free then i will have some questions about my hardware. Well, please reply back anytime. Thank You guys.

ok i'm downloading it now. The next question is. I have a PCTEL Platinum V. 90 modem which that is a internal winmodem. Will Solaris recognize that modem and will Solaris tell me that my modem was found? or when i go set up my internet and will Solaris give me an error saying that no modem was found? Do i have worried about any other hardware? My sound card is build in the motherboard. The name of that is Intel(r) Intergrated Audio. Will Solaris recognize that?? Please reply back. Thanks for the link.

Check the Hardware Compatability List (HCL) on Sun's website.

the latest version is Solaris 9 04/03.

This is solaris 9 that was released in April 2003. There are solaris released prior to this one (i have 12/02 at home) but 04/03 is the latest.

download a copy here...

...as for your modem, i have no idea i'm afraid. i have never plugged a modem into a SPARC machine, and i've never run solaris on intel :D

you can get an easy debit card by putting 200 bucks in the bank and reqesting a card they will mostlikly send it to you in the mail in about two weeks. It works like a credit card but your credit limit will be any money left in your acct after you freak out and buy eyetv that doesnt work with your system and you spend weeks trying to reprogram it to run under knopix. but if you actualy have a job you can put more money in the acct and buy more semi useless fun $#it for your puter online! usual disclamers an cautions aplly COG

there is a beta out for Solaris 10.
not too sure about the revs for an x86 release though.
Good luck with the install.

Uh, Derek man, the only modem supported by Solaris 9 is the Actiontec FM560LK - 56k PCMCIA Modem, according to this page of the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Your modem won't work without drivers and I don't think there are any for Sun.

Your best bet is to stick with Linux.

Not forgetting to :study: the install docs.
