what is "root password"...?

Hi

I installed Solaris 11 experss in a VM ( dumped Solaris 10/9, it started asking me about a plan number for SW update ... ) it's where i am posting from right now...

This asked me to create a user during the Install process, to which it asked me for a passwd...

I logged in to such user accnt, which i presume has su previleges...

... so far so good.

When i click in the icon "add more software", it asks me for a password, if i enter some bogus keywords, it will report an error
Quote:
Failed to run /usr/bin/packagemanager --allow-links: Password:
But if i enter the passwd i used to create the user account ( no more passwords was i asked to create, BTW... ) nothing happens...

Howz that...?

Hello, In Ubuntu 10.10 I can go to system > Admin. > Users and Groups >

I can change account type : which I am admin.

click on advanced settings > password required > user privileges tab >

here you can check-off everything you want to control

click OK on your way out, that should do it.

Root password is expired but gksu doesn't handle this situation. Just change root password in a terminal window.

I just ran the command as previleged user :

Quote:
alex@solaris:~$ sudo pkg update

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

alex@solaris:~$

what is the name of the proram for graphical package management...?

I could pick the packages more easily... selecting the groups and all...

YEAH... did it

Just checked the properties of the package manager icon

You misunderstood my reply. While it works too, there is no need to run the package manager through sudo. You simply need to change root's password for gksu to work as expected.
