what firewalls should i download for Solaris 10 x86?
Hey everyone hows it going?
What firewall software do you recommend for Solaris 10 x86? on my linux box i run GuardDog and i am pretty satisfied with it. Do you all know of any good programs i can download and install for Solaris as a firewall? preferably something with a GUI because i am not experienced in IPFilter and stuff like that.

ipfilter is installed by default in Solaris 10 and up.

I havent activated any firewall! Should I do that ASAP????
That depends on how your host is connected to the internet. It's usually enough to disable access to most services but ssh, like latest Solaris Express do (secure by default).
I didnt really understand your answer. First you say that "ipfilter" is a firewall and up and running by default. Then you say that, depending on my host's connection, i should activate a firewall? Why should I, when ipfilter is running? Should I install an additional firewall, besides ipfilter? Have two firewalls running?

I didn't wrote that.
I just wrote ipfilter is installed.
As there aren't any filtering rules by default, it is actually not running.

That's up to you. I have never set up a firewall on my laptop apart for experimenting.
I connect it on many networks including full access to the Internet and never had to suffer an successful attack. Unix is not windows.
I usually disable all unnecessary services though.

Two firewalls make sense only when they are on different machines, not on the same one.

I love to hear that you never had an successful attack, despite no firewall. Cool! Ok, so I shan't bother with starting a firewall om my Solaris machine. Thanx for sharing your knowledge to me!
I have been running linux at home for years and am now switching to solaris.
I have a broadband router which has inbuilt firewall which i use in default mode
I have never bothered with firewall software or worried at all about attacks and
have never had a problem (unless it's a virus that sits there and does nothing)
Some people have thrown mud at me for this but i stand by it
that you don't really need to lose sleep over security when you don't use windows.
It just doesn't really happen. Not to me anyway with years of internet access.
