Understanding Profile file in Solaris 10

Hi All, I am new to Solaris and trying to experience Solaris OS. I downloaded Solaris software and installed it on X86 box. I completed the initial setup and when I reboot the system, I was getting the error "Bad PBR sig" and the system got freezed. After finding for a solution on google, I found out that the problem was with the PROFILE file under Custom Jumpstart configuration. I am trying to understand what exactly this file performs and the paramemters that are configured in that file.

How did you install your Solaris 10? Jumpstart or CD/DVD? The solution that you speak of is caused by using Jumpstart profile for Sparc on x86 system.

Have you looked at this forum?

Also, check if your hardware is supported by Solaris 10:

Hi, I am using DVD to install Solaris. Steps I have followed:

I boot my system from dvd and started text-based installation and when it came to partition layout, I first opted for custom layout and when the Profile page came, I customized it since I wanted some disk space not to be used so that I can create slices from it. At the end of the installation, I rebooted the system and I got the error "BAD PBR Sig" and the system freezed. I then started looking for a solution and I came across these 2 links which were talking about Profile.

I remember that during the installation, I came across profile section. got point 36 in the following URL

I thought since I customized hardware, I am finding issues. Next time I again started installation procedure and didnot customize hardware and it worked this time. The whole problem is with profile.

It actually can't, given the fact you didn't use a custom jumpstart in the first place.
