tar problem
My SPARC machine is V240. I need to untar some files but it takes horrible long time. On prstat tar works with 0.2%
I decided to download GNU tar from http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistsparc10.html. After install I got this error: Code:
bash-3.00# /usr/local/bin/tar -xvf ivagt.tar |
If tar only takes .2% CPU the code is unlikely to blame. Did you look at the I/O figures ? System messages ?
Anyway, GNU tar is likely to be already installed with your system so there is no need to download and install one which is either somewhat broken (missing dependancies in the package metadata) or just not properly installed. Have a look at /usr/sfw/bin/gtar for a working GNU tar. |

iostat -xc 2 Code:
zpool iostat 2 Can you tell more about the performance you observe vs what you were expecting ? (ie. what is the ivagt.tar file size ? How many files are stored inside ? What filesystem are you using ? On what device ? internal/external ? ) Did you try with the bundled GNU tar ? |
Hey jlliagre - many thanks for your answer.
I have allready managed with problem - it was old release of solars 10 Code:
