Sun Cluster requirement
Hi, All

I have a question about sun Cluster HW requirement.

If sun cluster need two or more same HW platform. For example, if SFV880 and SFV4800 can construct cluster.

Clustering is a software level thing so typically doesn't require exactly the same hardware (except that hardware which you include in cluster such as SAN disks). Other hardware considerations would of course be available NICs for interconnects and virtual IPs.

It is quite common to have a robust server as the primary node and a lesser server as the failover node. It allows you to suffer only performance degradation in the event of an outage of the primary node.

In fact on earlier Sun hardware we setup such an arrangement and later due to performance needs actually made both nodes active.

You can mix and match to a point but you can't mix for instance x64 with sparc or
pci with sbus .

First one is obvious and second one is documented.

But I have built sun clusters with a mixture of e250s with e-450s without a problem.
Same thing when mixing and matching e-3500s with e-4500s.
