Starting a Solaris Management console

In trying to start the Solaris Management Console, I executed the command:
# /usr/sbin/smc &. The output of that command is as follows: "It appears you are attempting to run the graphical Solaris management Console from the a terminal which does not have a suitable 'DISPLAY' environment. Please check your 'DISPLAY' settings and that the user identity of this terminal has access to the X server of this display." At this point I am ompletly at a loss on what are the next steps. My search for solutions to this problem led me to this forum. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Assuming that you do have a graphical session, when you ssh into the Solaris server (which is my second assumption), use "ssh -X user@solaris". You should (if /etc/ssh/sshd_config is the default one) then have the $DISPLAY variable set to localhost:10.0 (or similar) and should be able to start a graphical command such as smc.

In /etc/ssh/sshd_config, check for the following, which should say "yes" and also be uncommented
Code:
X11Forwarding yes
