Sparcstation 10 Harddisk

I know this is a hardware question but I figured that people here would be more likely to have experience with a Sparcstation than people in the hardware forum.
I'm pretty much a newbie to sparc hardware, and infact scsi in general. So don't assume I know anything

I want to know if I can connect internally an 80pin Harddisk to a Sparcstation 10 using a 50-80pin converter. I've tried, and it kind of works but when I try probe-scsi in the bios it finds the disk at id3, but then freezes, I have to send BRK to get back to the prompt. Also, when booting from a debian CD it freezes when loading module esp (the scsi driver I think)

I'm guessing it's either not possible, or I've wired it wrong, any suggestions would be great, thanks.

You need a active termination at the harddisk.

I had set the term jumper on the 80-50 converter, which hadn't done anything, but I guess that terminates the bus, not the device. I found a term jumper on the harddisk, set that and it works fine. However, I have some disks that don't have a term jumper on them so I'm guessing I can't use these on the spacrstation's narrow bus.

Is there a guide on the web somewhere about connecting wide and ultrawide devices to narrow busses and vice versa?

Thanks
