Solaris : problem to connect internet
 

I run a macbook, and installed the package SKGEsol for the internet driver.

After installed, it gave me the message:

# driver failed to attach: skge
Warning: Driver (skge) successfully added to system but failed to attach
Installation of partially failed

then I tried

# ifconfig skge0 plumb
ifconfig: cannot open link "skge0": DLPI link does not exist

Please, any help? I am working on it about one week, having not moved one step further. :cry:

Are you sure your NIC is supported by the skge driver ?

I have installed the network driver, but it claims no PCI found. How to fix it - is it just config problem or some rpm/bin missing - any clue? :D

Well, your driver isn't supported by the skge driver. It might works with some custom settings but people experienced OS panics so I wouldn't do it.

You might want to try instead the myk driver which, according the site, supports your NIC (or not, the comments are ambiguous): http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/

First remove the skge driver before installing the new one.

1. Uninstall and clean the system from the skge network controller

# sys-unconfig

# pkginfo | grep skge

2. Install the right driver: YUKONXsolx -- hopping this one should be the correct.

then go the the web site from your manufacturer and download the appropriate Ethernet driver.

2. Uninstall and clean the system from the any previous unsuited network controller - normally solaris comes yet with a standard drive, that normally may not match with what you have in you machine.

# pkgrm SKGEsol

skge is the name of my old Ethernet driver.

3. Install the right driver: (in my case) YUKONXsolx -- after download and unpacked it. Here YUKONXsolx is the name of the folder where the driver was automatically generated when unpacked into.

How to connect to internet?
 

My situation is similar to yours in that I can't get my box to connect to the internet. I have the LAN working which means I have the NIC working, read on...

OS = Solaris 10 1008. Platform = Sun Enterprise 450 with 2CPU's and 2gig's RAM. NIC = Hme0.

After i told the system it's IP number and route I got the LAN working with something like:

svcadm enable dhcp

Now for the life of me I can't get the WAN working. I suspected resolv.conf and it has the right info in it. Does anyone know what I should do next?

BTW, I got the GUI working at 1024x768x16 and the colour is awful, but that's going to be another issue.

A mac book and an E450 have hardly anything in common.

Can you better explain what is your setup. Setting the system IP address then enabling dhcp are somewhat contradictory.

What says "grep hosts /etc/nsswitch.conf" ?

I installed solaris 5.10, and am using Sony viao notebook (installed directly, no vmware/virtual machine).

Please let me know weather solaris will support this type of ethernet cards? if not let me know where can i download drivers and what is the next step.

Just now i downloaded drivers for Marvel from

and i installed SUNWwpi package by using pkgadd command.

after that i am not able to find next sep.
also my system showing "wificonfig is not found"

It would help if you tell which one of the network interfaces you want to use in the first place.
The twisted pair interface should be supported with the myk driver.
There is also an Intel wifi driver that seems to have issues at least with OpenSolaris (Open bug:
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6908040 )
I don't know if there is a driver with Solaris 10 for the latter.
