Solaris : problem to connect internet
I run a macbook, and installed the package SKGEsol for the internet driver.
After installed, it gave me the message: # driver failed to attach: skge Warning: Driver (skge) successfully added to system but failed to attach Installation of partially failed then I tried # ifconfig skge0 plumb ifconfig: cannot open link "skge0": DLPI link does not exist Please, any help? I am working on it about one week, having not moved one step further. |
Are you sure your NIC is supported by the skge driver ?
|
yes.. I am sure.
http://forums.opensolaris.com/thread...messageID=2678 http://www.syskonnect.eu/e_en/produc.../SK-9E21d.html but it still not working. |
Please show what "/usr/X11/bin/scanpci" and "grep skge /etc/driver_aliases" reports on your macbook.
|
As you suggested.. here it is:
# grep skge /etc/driver_aliases skge "pci1148,9e00" skge "pci1148,9000" skge "pci1148,5021" skge "pci1148,5041" skge "pci1148,5043" skge "pci1148,5051" skge "pci1148,5061" skge "pci1148,5071" skge "pci1148,5081" skge "pci1148,9821" skge "pci1148,9822" skge "pci1148,9841" skge "pci1148,9842" skge "pci1148,9843" skge "pci1148,9844" skge "pci1148,9861" skge "pci1148,9862" skge "pci1148,9871" skge "pci1148,9872" skge "pci1259,2916" skge "pci1259,2970" skge "pci1259,2971" skge "pci1259,2972" skge "pci1259,2973" skge "pci1259,2974" skge "pci1259,2975" skge "pci1259,2976" skge "pci1259,2977" skge "pci11ab,4363" # vi /usr/X11/bin/scanpci IOBASE 0x%04x IOLIM 0x%04x -v print config space -O use OS config support -f force config type -V set message verbosity level CardVendor 0x%04x card 0x%04x xf86LinearVidMem: failed to open %s (%s) xf86LinearVidMem: either /dev/fbs/aperture or /dev/xsvc device driver required xf86LinearVidMem: linear memory access disabled xf86MapVidMem: no aperture device xf86MapVidMem: failed to open %s (%s) xf86MapVidMem: mmap failure: %s xf86EnableIOPorts: Failed to set IOPL for I/O pciReadWord: Alignment error: Cannot read 16 bits at offset %d pciWriteWord: Alignment Error: Cannot read 16 bits from offset %d pciGenFindNext: primary bus mismatch on PCI bridge 0x%08lx (0x%02x, 0x%02x) PCI: PCI scan (all values are in hex) PCI: %.2x:%02x:%1x: chip %04x,%04x card %04x,%04x rev %02x class %02x,%02x,%02x hdr %02x xf86scanpci: Out of memory after %d devices!! xf86MapPciMem: Could not mmap PCI memory [base=0x%lx,hostbase=0x%lx,size=%lx] (%s) xf86ReadPciBios: modifying membase[%i] for device %i:%i:%i Cannot find empty range to map base to Truncating PCI BIOS Length to %i PCI: stages = 0x%02x, oldVal1 = 0x%08lx, mode1Res1 = 0x%08lx, mode1Res2 = 0x%08lx PCI: No PCI bus found or probed for PCI: Probing config type using method 1 PCI: stages = 0x%02x, oldVal1 = 0x%08lx, mode1Res1 = 0x%08lx PCI: Probing config type using method 2 PCI: Standard check for type 1 failed. xf86ReadBIOS: Failed to open %s (%s) xf86ReadBIOS: Could not mmap BIOS [a=%lx] xf86ReadBIOS: %s mmap failed [0x%08lx, 0x%04x] PREFETCHABLEMEMI/O 64BITnot-?v12OfV: Device unknown (%s %s) %s NO_ (Card unknown), Usage: scanpci [-v12OfV] -1 config type 1 -2 config type 2xf86SetupPciIds () failed No PCI devices foundEnDisSparseBlock SECSTATUS 0x%04x BUS I/O 0x%06x-0x%06x BUS MEM 0x%08x-0x%08x Fatal Error: XNFalloc failed XNFrealloc failed XNFcalloc failed /dev/xsvc/dev/fbs/aperturePCI: End of PCI scan PCI: Config type is 1 PCI: Forcing config type 2 PCI: Forcing config type 1 PCI: Config type is 2 I have installed the network driver, but it claims no PCI found. Hmmm, scanpci is a command to run, not a file to edit.

Well, your driver isn't supported by the skge driver. It might works with some custom settings but people experienced OS panics so I wouldn't do it.
You might want to try instead the myk driver which, according the site, supports your NIC (or not, the comments are ambiguous): http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ First remove the skge driver before installing the new one. |
yes, you're right. so, what I've done:
1. Uninstall and clean the system from the skge network controller # sys-unconfig # pkginfo | grep skge # pkgrm SKGEsol 2. I don't get exactly why you ask for *another* idea given the fact you didn't follow my suggestion but pick another driver ...
Anyway, these commands should improve the detection: Code:

How to connect to internet?
My situation is similar to yours in that I can't get my box to connect to the internet. I have the LAN working which means I have the NIC working, read on...
Quote:
After i told the system it's IP number and route I got the LAN working with something like: svcadm enable dhcp Now for the life of me I can't get the WAN working. I suspected resolv.conf and it has the right info in it. Does anyone know what I should do next? BTW, I got the GUI working at 1024x768x16 and the colour is awful, but that's going to be another issue. :-) Peter |
A mac book and an E450 have hardly anything in common.
Can you better explain what is your setup. Setting the system IP address then enabling dhcp are somewhat contradictory. What says "grep hosts /etc/nsswitch.conf" ? |
about understanding DNS client on Solaris, please get a read on...
http://www.softpanorama.org/DNS/dns_clients.shtml if you follows the step I described in my previous post, your network/internet connection will work! of course you will just need to replace some info to your server parameters. :D |

It would help if you tell which one of the network interfaces you want to use in the first place.
The twisted pair interface should be supported with the myk driver. There is also an Intel wifi driver that seems to have issues at least with OpenSolaris (Open bug: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6908040 ) I don't know if there is a driver with Solaris 10 for the latter. |
