Hi, i regularly ftp/telnet into a solaris machine and it defaults to ksh. i really prefer bash, and i was wondering what file i would need to edit to change my default settings...something like a .bashrc...ive looked and dont see anything like .profile except for .dtprofile. its not my machine so i didnt want to change anything without knowing what it was.
any help on this would be appreciated.
You'd edit the /etc/passwd file in which the root account would have to edit or change for you. But you might want to ask first if bash is even installed as well.
ah...well, i know bash is there, i can switch when i log in...tho i am on good terms with the teacher who runs the machine, i dont think i will bug him about that switching it for me. ill just keep doing it on my own. its not a problem, i just thought if i could set it, itd save me some hassle because i log in several times a day...oh well...thanks for the help.
uh yeah, im pretty new to the linux/unix world, so i forgot that .profile is something you can create, not something thats always there by default.
i stuck the
exec bash -o vi
in my .profile, logged in, and it brings me up in bash. works perfectly. that will save me some hassle, cuz i usually forget, and the character mapping is different between the comps, but its works better in bash...i get ^H and ^A and stuff like that with ksh but everything else works now.
thanks a lot.
