Solaris and logout after while

1- How can I disable the automatically logout by solaris if I remain for a while not using unix box?

2- There is a change in the color of application if I want to switch between browser and Terminal or editor,,,How can I disable this ?

3- Is there any option let me change the design of desktop ?

1) I guess you really complain of the screenlock feature. Are you under CDE or JDS ?

2) You probably have selected a 8 bit (256 colors) display. Fix that in the X Window configuration.

3) Sure, that depends too on which windowing environment you use.

I use CDE, do you mean this (CDE)?

By the way the USB flask worked on sun blade 150 box

See http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~psgendb/cde/desktop.html for a CDE presentation.

Concerning the 256 colors issue, do you know which one of Xsun or Xorg you run ?
You chose it at installation time or when running kdmconfig.

If you have no idea, look to what file is symlinked /usr/openwin/bin/X.

Are there two desktop environments coming by default with Solaris ?

jlliagre 05-03-2005 12:41 AM

Yes starting with Solaris 10.
The login interface let you select which one to run.
If you install alternative window manager from blastwave, they are added to this menu too (e.g. icewm).

Then why I have got only one (CDE),, do I need to do something elas to install JDS,,,could you please advise,,,,and how can I install again from the CD

jlliagre 05-03-2005 01:29 AM

Both environments are installed by default when the O/S is installed on the disk. I cannot explain how you manage not to have JDS ...
Can you confirm you really are missing JDS by looking in the Options/Session menu on the CDE login screen (should be CDE, JDS3, last and failsafe).

Another way would be:
pkginfo | grep JDS3
pkginfo | grep GNOME2
These commands should display all the packages related to JDS.

It was my mistake, I found it. It is nice, and it is similar to windows's desktop.

Can CDE be converted to this style (JDS style) instead of its traditional style ? Still I have read the documantation about CDE that you posted before

Xsun.

It is symlinked to Xsun as well

So to change the resolution, the simpler is to rerun kdmconfig and select a deeper frame-buffer (16 or 24 bits).

Short answer: no.
CDE look and feel can be somewhat enhanced but to a limit. CDE hasn't improved for many years and is being phased out and obsoleted by the more modern, featured and open standard based Gnome and similar open source window managers / graphic environments.

I found on one of the sparc machine at work (SunBlade 150) Gnome 2.0,,,Does it come by default with sparc software ? or something additional it have to be installed.

Can we used for intel platform with solaris 10? see this link:
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/s...ome/gnome-2.0/

if yes, what will the process for installation, any advice, do we need to do any extra configuration?

jlliagre 05-04-2005 05:38 AM

You already have gnome2 with Solaris 10, not sure to understand what you are asking for ?

zillah 05-04-2005 09:26 AM

In my intel platfore Solaris V10,When I am in Welcome Screen

Options->Session-> Theses options are available :

1- CDE.
2- JDS Release3.
3- User's Last Desktop.
4- Failsafe Session.

But when I checked ths sparc PC solaris V9,(not my PC) I found gnome 2 instead of JDS Release3.
