Solaris 10 root GNOME & CDE errors???
Hi,
Last night I was messing around with how the arrangement of the icons on the CDE front panel, after installing OpenOffice and CDE locked up (by the way, it is a vmware virtual machine)...I reset the virtual machine and restarted it. I tried to login as root with the java desktop and the java desktop gets errors too. The strange thing is...when I login in my regular user account, I can get both CDE and the GNOME Java Desktop to work fine, no errors what so-ever. My question is...can I just create a new root user account, or do I have to reinstall sunos? Thanks in advance if you can help, Derek Here are some screenshots of the problems that I took: Logging in as root in CDE - the screen is just black and nothing else occurs except for the hour glass cursor that you can move around the screen Logging in as root in GNOME Java Desktop - the screen loads up...showing the splash screen and then these error messages occur...when you close them...nothing else happens. |

- fix what is wrong with your root account - create a root alias with an different home directory (e.g. /root) - stay without logging in as root under a graphic environment, which is anyway a wrong idea. Reinstalling Solaris would be overkill for such a minor issue ... |
