THEN

i configure the client machine using ypinit -c and edit the nsswitch.conf and started the NIS by using
/usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypstart but when i try to user the test account it

It means the test account's home directory is not on nis server of SB150 or did not correctly auto-mount in on the client machine.

1> Has the NFS-shared filesystem on SB150 been configured for nis client's home directory usage?

SB150# share ==> What does it give?

2> What the following commands give on client machine?

bash-2.05# ypcat auto.home
bash-2.05# ypcat auto.master

3> Has autofs service been enabled on client machine.

==== Solaris 10 ======
-bash-3.00# svcs -a | grep autofs

==== Before Solaris 10 ===
# ps -ef | grep automount

Its the defaultdomain file

I tried this on a VBOX VM running Solaris 10 x86 10/09 release, and got stuck with the same problem as the original poster. Changing the /etc/defaultdomain file worked for me.

The /etc/defaultdomain file should be like this (note the last . at the end of the file):

example.com .

Hope this helps.
