Software / Package managment under Solaris

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone could give me a description of the software managment tool(s) used by Solaris. For instance, like dpkg/apt is for Debian or RPM is for Red Hat. I understand that freeBSD uses somthing called ports (?) which is like apt/rpm but you compile everything locally instead of it being pre compiled for you. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Solaris use the System V standard packaging format.

Packages are installed with the pkgadd command.

Should you want to know more about it, have a look at the pkgadd, pkginfo, pkgmk, pkgparam, pkgproto, pkgtrans and pkgrm manual pages.

Finally, there is pkg-get http://www.bolthole.com/solaris/pkg-get.html, a freeware wrapper "à la" apt-get, easing package installation by automatically managing dependancies.
